I used a Graco. Good price and the seat leans back and swaddles baby plus sits upright for bigger babies.

Here is the one we have:

It holds up to 30 pounds, unlike most on the market. This is one of the reasons we got it. Graco has a very good reputation when it comes to swings...especially as far as motors go if you plan on using this for an older baby. What I love about these newer Graco swings is that they have changed the design of the seat so that it is soft instead of hard...perfect for newborns and older babies alike. We love ours! It also has a mobile and toys that are removable if you don't want to use them. It plays plenty of music and nature sounds...my daughter loves the womb sounds. It doesn't seem to eat batteries either.

My son was a very fussy - high maintenance baby, and he only liked the swings that could go side-to-side. I borrowed the Fisher Price Nature's Touch Cradle Swing, and it's absolutely wonderful! Before I got it, he wouldn't let me put him down! After we borrowed the swing, he would take all his naps in it and we took it with us wherever we went. It's a really great swing! We also bought the Fisher Price Rain forest Swing because it can be plugged in (a great feature!). He liked the swing alright, but really preferred the other!
Also, once a baby is able to roll around, sit, and move a little on their own, they usually don't want to be in the swing anymore -- so don't worry too much about a swing that your baby can grow into. Honestly, they're mostly for the small babies.

i like any that swing in both directions, i bought the fisher price, even after mixed reviews, but a friend had one and liked it, so far mine is great....there are several to choose from, i think babies r us has at least 3 like that, this one, the papasan something, and the papasan 2008; i also was set on getting one that worked on batteries and plugged in as i have read a lot of them are battery suckers....this one can do both....good luck...check out babiesrus website and look at swings to see what i mean if u r not familiar with it....it also has many speeds to choose from and you can recline it for smaller ones and sit it up for others to look around...happy hunting

Like others have been saying the weight limit on most swings is 25 lbs. Even so, a few months use might be all you get anyway. My daughter stopped liking it well before she hit the weight limit. Once they become mobile, many babies want to be exploring rather than confined to the swing.

i have the fisher price papasan cradle swing. We love it. I think it goes to 25 lbs. It swings 2 different directions, has tons of different song choices, lights, a mobile, a plug so you dont have to worry about batteries and its got netting around it and the lights project onto it so there are little butterflies all around her and on the walls, its cute.

I had a couple of Ocean Wonders Aquarium Swings for my twins and those lasted until they were 7 or 8 months old. They're good up to 25 lbs, though, but they just weren't interested in it anymore.

I would go with the Rainforest Swing by Fisher Price, though. It's the newer model and it actually has an A/C adaptor so you don't have to keep using batteries!

Those are wonderful swings because they go front to back and side to side, they have a mobile, and they play music or soothing sounds. They also don't stop unless you turn it off so if you happen to have a colicky newborn you can certainly put them in that overnight next to your bed, of course.

The rainforest one is nice because it swings in 3 positions, has a mobile and plugs into the wall ( no batteries to change! ) also it has like 5 speeds, a lot of different music/sounds and volume control...also has a little tray with a dip for putting a snack in when baby is older.
